“Audubon's mission is to conserve and restore natural ecosystems, focusing on birds, other wildlife, and their habitats for the benefit of humanity and the earth's biological diversity.
Our national network of community-based nature centers and chapters, scientific and educational programs, and advocacy on behalf of areas sustaining important bird populations, engage millions of people of all ages and backgrounds in positive conservation experiences.”

BUND
Friends of the Earth

"The German branch of Friends of the Earth, Bund für Umwelt und Naturschutz Deutschland (BUND), was founded in 1975 as a federation of pre-existing regional groups. Some local branches date back to 1913. BUND has its origins in the nature conservation movement. Today, the organisation is one of the most influential environmental organisations in Germany. BUND has 390,000 members and supporters. Members are active in some 2,200 local and regional groups, involved with everything from lobbying work to practical nature conservation.

BUND works on all of today's major environmental issues and is a well recognized lobbyist with a high media profile. A major priority for BUND is the implementation of an intelligent and sustainable transportation policy. BUND is also campaigning for agricultural reform, i.e. diverse land use, healthy food and responsible animal husbandry.

Internationally, BUND works on climate policy and coordinates campaigns for Friends of the Earth International. In order to promote nature conservation, BUND carries out specific, topic-based campaigns every year. Not only are our groups influential on the local level, they also enable us to mobilize mass support on the national level. In addition, BUND also has its own youth branch, BUNDjugend, consisting of young people aged 25 and under, leading their own projects and campaigns."

„WWF directs its conservation efforts toward three global goals: saving endangered species, protecting endangered habitats and addressing global threats such as toxic pollution, over-fishing and climate change. From working to save the giant panda and bringing back the Asian rhino to establishing and helping to manage parks and reserves worldwide, WWF has been a conservation leader for more than 40 years.“

„Greenpeace has been campaigning against environmental degradation since 1971 when a small boat of volunteers and journalists sailed into Amchitka, an area north of Alaska where the US Government was conducting underground nuclear tests. This tradition of 'bearing witness' in a non-violent manner continues today, and our ships are an important part of all our campaign work.

We exist to expose environmental criminals, and to challenge government and corporations when they fail to live up to their mandate to safeguard our environment and our future.

In pursuing our mission, we have no permanent allies or enemies. We promote open, informed debate about society's environmental choices. We use research, lobbying, and quiet diplomacy to pursue our goals, as well as high-profile, non-violent conflict to raise the level and quality of public debate.

And we believe that the struggle to preserve the future of our planet is not about us. It's about you. Greenpeace speaks for 2.8 million supporters worldwide, and encourages many millions more than that to take action every day.“

„PRO WILDLIFE is a non-profit organisation committed to the protection of the world's wildlife from over-exploitation, habitat destruction and abuse.
Many animal species are pushed to the brink of extinction because of the destruction of their habitat or because they fall victim to commercial hunters and animal captors. Existing conservation regulations are often insufficient. PRO WILDLIFE promotes effective conservation measures and exposes the reality of the animal trade and its fatal consequences for biodiversity. PRO WILDLIFE is an advocate for wildlife - in public, in the political field, and through conservation projects."

Robin Wood e. V.

„In 1982 a dozen environmentalists banded together because they could no longer just sit back and watch the forests perish. They called themselves ROBIN WOOD, inspired by the legendary character, and sprang into action as non-violent "Defenders of the Leaf". Initially ROBIN WOOD focused on the topic of acid rain. Thus several chimney stacks were scaled and "occupied" by adventurous environmentalists and decorated with banners of protest and warning

The idea of becoming personally involved in environmental issues has caught the interest of many people. Presently, our organisation has about 13.000 donators and 1,600 members. Regional offices can be found in about eleven cities. Further issues have been adopted: ROBIN WOOD is campaigning against the destruction of tropical rain forests, against the wasteful use of energy and increasing levels of rubbish, and we are working for a reasonable transport policy. Whether ROBIN WOOD is climbing the roof of some major power supply company or expressing its opinion to the government unignorably on an enormous banner, ROBIN WOOD activists can be seen there in their leisure time. The majority of the organisation's work - whether spectacular events, information stands, lectures or publications - is carried out by unpaid volunteer workers.“

„The Wildlife Conservation Society saves wildlife and wild lands. We do so through careful science, international conservation, education, and the management of the world's largest system of urban wildlife parks, led by the flagship Bronx Zoo. Together, these activities change individual attitudes toward nature and help people imagine wildlife and humans living in sustainable interaction on both a local and a global scale. WCS is committed to this work because we believe it essential to the integrity of life on earth.“
